I always love when I have a personal connection with my clients. This wonderful family has an older son who goes to school with my son. The mom didn’t realize that I was a newborn photographer until she came across my name on the school’s Facebook page. She tracked me down and hoped that I could schedule a newborn session for her daughter when she was born. I was afraid that I couldn’t commit to fitting in her newborn session due to the fact that I was having surgery and didn’t know if I would be recovered in enough time to do her session. Fortunately, everything worked out and I was able to photograph this beautiful baby girl and her wonderful family.
Here’s a sneak peek into my latest Newborn Session.
Sari Newborn Session
I always love when clients bring personal items to use in my newborn sessions. Especially if it has special meaning to them. Since these are photographs that I want them to cherish forever, having special items in their photos makes them just that more precious. My clients wanted to highlight their Indian culture in the photos, so they brought along some special saris. Each sari that she picked to bring to the session had special significance to her because they were all worn by her mother on memorable occasions – her mother’s engagement, her wedding, one she remembered her mother wearing when she was a child, etc.
I was more than happy to incorporate them into my set-ups and give my clients some very special photos. She was hoping to get one of them in a photo with her daughter and I thought why not use all of them! They were all so beautiful with their vibrant colors and patterns that I decided to surround the baby with them as she soundly slept in my wooden bowl.
I decided to choose the blue sari to wrap her in while she slept. How gorgeous does the deep blue look against her gorgeous skin!
Getting a little girlie
Next, I wanted to use some girlie colors and props. The little tiara looked adorable on the head of this sleeping princess. She also looked beautiful wrapped in pink, sleeping in my wooden bucket. Pink is definitely her color and I loved the little face she made while sleeping.
Neutral colors are always a favorite of mine. I loved the contrast of the different shades of cream against her gorgeous head of dark hair. My favorite little white bed was perfect for placing her in. Using different layers of white blankets and wraps, we finished her look off with one of my white, floral headbands.
Finally we placed her in my antiqued, metal bucket with my knit hat with bear ears. She looked like a little, hibernating bear! For a pop of color, I placed a watering can filled with fresh purple tulips. I think fresh flowers make the perfect finishing touch. For posing and prop ideas, check out my Pinterest Page.
Family Love
Photos with siblings and parents are some of my favorite poses. It’s so wonderful to see the love among family members and see how their new addition brings new joy. Big brother was so happy to pose with his new little sister. Just look at how big his smile is as he holds her. I love when he leaned down and gave her a little kiss on her head. He’ll be a fantastic big brother to her.
Parent poses are so precious. My client looked so perfect holding her little girl and I loved the smile on baby’s face! Getting a newborn smile does not happen often, so it’s always exciting when I’m able to capture one. This family was so filled with love and it was my honor to be their newborn photographer.
