When someone thinks of a baby, the first colors that come to their mind are blue and pink. Although these colors are great and my studio is full of wraps and props in all hues, I have to say that I am currently obsessed with using neutral tones for my newborn photo shoots. White, cream, gray, brown and beige have been my latest “go to” and I am loving the resulting photos!
Neutral Tones
One of the best parts of my job is creating beautiful set-ups for each photograph. My studio is full of blankets, wraps, headbands, and props to create images that my clients will treasure for many years to come. I want my photos to tell a story, as well as show off the beauty of my subjects. I have found by using neutral tones, I let the cuteness of my littlest clients shine by showing off their dreamy complexions. Check out my Pinterest page to see all my latest set-ups.
Clients don’t have to be apprehensive about choosing neutral tones over more traditional colors. I have found the trick to working with neutral tones is to use lots of layers. By using wraps, throws, and props of different materials in my set-ups, I can create depth in my photos. Soft, natural materials like cotton, wool and fur add a wonderful touch to the looks as well. Props like my adorable beds, stools, antique crates, and buckets help to create rustically memorable photos. I love using my new Dolly prop from Handmadedolls DE and my beds from The Original Photoblocks Props and Rozzi Rayne Studio Props. Take a look at the photos below and see how my use of neutral tones really brings out the exquisite skin tones of my newborns.
