Being a Newborn Photographer, one of the hardest parts of my job is getting the little ones soothed to sleep so I can take all those adorable sleeping poses. I have many tricks up my sleeve that usually keep the babies peacefully asleep. But every once in a while I get a little client who just does not want to succumb to my baby magic and wants to give me a challenge. Here’s a peek into Baby Hunter Newborn Session.
Baby Hunter Newborn Session
Little Hunter came in just a few days old, as most of my newborn clients do. He was absolutely adorable and I was looking forward to photographing his newborn session. Unfortunately, he did not want to cooperate as well as I had hoped. He was a non-sleeper and as much as I tried, would not fall asleep. He also did not enjoy being touched or moved, which made it harder to pose. The only thing that did soothe him was being constantly nursed by his mother. As time ticked on, she was worried that we would only have a few images from Baby Hunter Newborn session, and most of them would be of Hunter crying.
Even though he didn’t want to sleep, I got a ton of cute shots of him awake. I always love incorporating personal items into the set-ups. His Dad was a Penn State fan, so of course he needed the obligatory shot in Blue and White with the little football. Turns out everyone else was a huge Steelers fan in Hunter’s family. We got a kick out of posing him with the little Steelers blanket because Hunter must take after his Dad and may be, not a huge fan of the team. I tried several poses with the blanket, but little Hunter was not having it. So we just decided to take the shot with Hunter crying because it summed up his feelings toward the entire newborn session.
One of the sweetest things the family brought was this antique sock monkey Hunter’s Great Grandma made for Hunter’s Dad! I just HAD to get the shot for them. Hunter did not want to sleep so I wrapped him up and propped him up on the antique wooden rocking chair to pose with his Dad’s baby toy. It is so incredible to see small things being passed down for generations, that mean so so much! It may not be perfectly posed, but it is one of my favorite shots because it means something to them…..
Eventually, after a lot of nursing, soothing, and wrapping, we were able to get him off to sleep and put him in some cute set-ups. Check out more of my set-ups in my Portfolio. I just love him sleeping on my wooden bucket while wearing the knit hat with the ears! Hunter looks like a little, baby bear. I also adore the last shot we got to him sleeping in the wooden crate. Just look at the little smile we got out of him – priceless! You would never know from seeing these pictures how much trouble he gave me! Thank goodness he is cute!
