I have photographed a lot of newborn babies. Some are great and spend the entire session sleeping, never making a peep. Then there are those who just want to check out the world, and take a lot of soothing. As a mother to 3 kids myself, I know that all babies are different. Even within a family, the kids completely vary with their habits and personalities. What one kids loves, another hates and vice versa. This is even true for babies as young as newborns. Awake or asleep, I am always able to capture some gorgeous moments, and beautiful photos. Here’s a little peek into Sophia’s Newborn Session.
Sophia’s Newborn Session
Meet baby Sophia. A few years ago, I had pleasure of photographing her older sister when she was a newborn. I remember her sister being very quiet and easy soothe and pose. Unlike her sister, Miss Sophia was a very awake baby. She was so cute looking at the camera and was more content checking out the room than sleeping. It took all my tricks to soothe her to sleep, but then I was able to get her into some adorable set-ups.
I love using my little antique bed with her. Layering all the different throws and wraps added depth and interest to the photo. Adding the lace bear hat was the perfect finishing touch. The sibling photos came out adorable. The girls looked so angelic both in white. I also loved the huge smile on her big sister’s face when posing with Sophia and her Dad.
I love newborn awake shots because their personality tends to show, even for a moment. Parents always love the sleeping shots in my portfolio but they ADORE the awake shots! I try to get both during the newborn session. For other posing ideas, check out my Pinterest page.
